“Business Models for Open Government Data” Receives ICEGOV 2014 Best Research Paper Award

On October 30, 2014, lead researcher, Gustavo Magalhaes and co-author Laura Manley presented their research paper “Business Models for Open Government Data” at the 8th Annual International Conferences on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV) in Guimarães, Portugal. This year, the conference focused on the Rise of Data Post-2015: Empowered Citizens, Accountable Institutions.

The paper used the sample of companies identified in the Open Data 500 to develop business model archetypes and their value proposition. The Open Data 500 is the first comprehensive study of U.S. companies that use open government data to generate new business and develop new products and services.

ICEGOV selected their paper for the esteemed Best Research Paper Award out of 136 submitted papers from 51 countries. The GovLab congratulates the authors and looks forward to the continued collaboration from academics, government, businesses and non-profits to utilize and conduct further research on the data from the Open Data 500.
