The Cloud Leadership Centre – the nonprofit arm of venture capital firm C5 Capital – announced The GovLab as a winner of its annual Shield in the Cloud challenge. The award, which recognizes companies and organizations for their innovations in the fight against corruption, was presented to The GovLab at an awards ceremony last week.
As a non-profit organization dedicated to improving people’s lives by changing the way we govern, one of The GovLab’s key goals is to leverage collaborative, innovative problem-solving methods and new technologies to advance governance and anti-corruption initiatives.
“We would like to thank the Cloud Leadership Centre for recognizing our efforts in this critical problem area,” said Beth Simone Noveck, Director of The GovLab. “We look forward to continuing our work with public partners to address how new technologies can make a difference.”
Recent examples of The GovLab’s work on this front include working with the Mexican government, civil society and over 100 global experts to generate new, actionable ideas in the fight against corruption in Mexico, and launching a comprehensive course to train public officials on how to use new technologies to increase efficiency, improve equity, fight corruption and enhance legitimacy in the judiciary.
“Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s challenge,” said Andre Pienaar, C5 Capital Founder. “It is extremely important that we not only recognise organisations such as these – that are using innovation and technology to combat corruption – for the good work they do, but also that we show policy and decision makers exactly what is possible, and what is already being done.”
