Open Data 500 & White House Office of Science & Technology Policy Host Open Data Roundtable

Today in Washington, DC, The Governance Lab’s Open Data 500 team and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, with the US Department of Commerce, convene business, nonprofit and federal government leaders for an all-day Open Data 500 Roundtable discussion. The event builds on the Open Data 500 study (www.OpenData500.com), designed to help  government agencies and businesses work together to determine how open government data can be made more relevant, accessible, and actionable.
The event is the first in a series of Open Data 500 Roundtables that The GovLab is planning with several federal agencies, including the Departments of Agriculture, Labor, Transportation, and Treasury. For participating companies and other data-users, the Roundtables are an opportunity to meet directly with the government agencies and officials that supply the data they rely on. For federal agencies, the Roundtables can help identify the data collections in each bureau that have the greatest and most immediate potential public value.
The Department of Commerce open data is used by  more open data companies than any other agency in our study, and is thus the ideal agency to launch the Open Data Roundtable Series. Reports on the discussions with details, including the list of participants, will be published by The GovLab and the US Department of Commerced following the event.
